The league

What is the Apex Super League?

When your child’s winter football season ends, their development doesn’t have to.

26 October 2026 to 28 March 2027 Break between Term 4 and Term 1

The Apex Super League is a junior football development league in Perth for U8, U10 and U12 players, created to give young footballers a structured environment to keep training, competing and improving.

Players are selected through the Apex Trial & Player Draft before being drafted into one of 4 ASL clubs. From there, they train twice a week and compete in weekly Sunday competitive matches, giving them the opportunity to put what they’re learning into the game every week.

Every part of the environment — from the coaching and competition to individual feedback — is designed to challenge players, develop their understanding of the game and help them keep progressing.

The league

How does it work?

Apex Super League (Summer Season) runs across WA School Term 4 and Term 1, combining high-quality player development with competitive league football in one structured environment.

Players are selected through the Trial & Player Draft and drafted into an ASL club. They train twice each week, represent their club in league matches every Sunday, and finish the season with the ASL Finals Series.

Trial. Draft. Represent your club.

Every player begins with the ASL Trial & Draft Assessment. Selected players then enter the ASL Player Draft, where they are drafted into one of four ASL clubs — each with its own identity and style of play.

The Draft is designed with player development in mind — placing players in an environment where their strengths can shine, while still challenging them to grow.

  1. 01 Trial Complete the ASL Trial & Draft Assessment
  2. 02 Draft Selected players enter the ASL Player Draft
  3. 03 Represent Be drafted into one of four ASL clubs for the season.

Every match counts.

Four clubs compete in each age division across a 14-match ASL season, with every result contributing to the live league ladder.

After 12 league rounds, clubs enter the Championship Round, where 1st plays 2nd and 3rd plays 4th for one final chance to shape the ladder.

The season then finishes with Finals Day — 1st vs 2nd in the ASL Grand Final, while 3rd vs 4th compete in the 3rd Place Final.

Coaching with a purpose.

Every ASL training session has a clear development focus. Players work on the technical ability, decision-making and understanding of the game needed to become more complete footballers.

Training is tailored to each age division, with two structured sessions every week designed to progressively build on what players are learning throughout the season.

Coaches observe each player throughout the program and provide individual feedback, giving players a clearer understanding of what they are doing well and what they need to improve next.

  • 2× training sessions per week
  • Age-specific development
  • Individual player feedback

More than training and matches.

The ASL experience extends beyond what happens on the pitch. Players become part of a season they can follow, watch back and build a record of from their first match through to Finals Day.

Every league match is recorded, with player statistics tracked throughout the season and available to families through the ASL Parent Portal.

Players also receive their ASL training and club kits and compete in The ASL Cup — a separate tournament experience included as part of their season during the January School Holidays.

The pathway

Your child’s division

The ASL is built around a clear development pathway, with each age division designed around what players need at that stage of their football development. Additional age divisions and girls’ competitions will be introduced from 2027.

The Discovery Phase is where players explore the game.

Through 7v7, players are constantly involved — receiving the ball, taking players on, combining with teammates, defending, finding space and making decisions.

The smaller format creates more touches, more 1v1 situations and more opportunities for every player to influence the game.

The emphasis is on curiosity, confidence and creativity, while developing a genuine relationship with the ball and the game.

Development focus

  • Confidence on the ball
  • 1v1 attacking & defending
  • Receiving & passing
  • Awareness of space
  • Decision-making

Players are challenged to recognise space, play through pressure, combine with teammates, create advantages and make better decisions within competitive matches.

How are ASL age groups determined?

ASL 2026/27 runs across two calendar years. A player's division is determined by their date of birth, not their age on the day they register or play.

Their ASL division remains fixed for the entire season, even after they have a birthday.

  • ASL U8 — Born 2018-2019
  • ASL U10 — Born 2016-2017
  • ASL U12 — Born 2014-2015
  • ASL U13 — Born 2013

Frequently asked questions

The league

How does the Apex Super League work?

The ASL runs across the summer, when the regular club season has finished. It gives players a professional training environment with training 2x a week and a competitive match every Sunday, for 14 weeks.

After trialling, players are drafted into one of the 4 ASL clubs in their division, each with its own coach, training night and playing style, so they keep developing and competing right through the off-season.

Every match is filmed, clubs compete on a live ladder, and the season finishes with the Finals Series on 28 March 2027.

Who is the ASL suited for?

The ASL suits U8 to U12 players who are committed to improving their game over the summer.

Whether your child is already playing at a high level or is looking for a structured environment to accelerate their development, the ASL provides professional coaching, competitive matches and a clear pathway to help every player reach their potential.

Players of all abilities are welcome to attend the trials, and your child does not need to already train with Apex Football Group.

Dates and venues

When does the 2026/27 season start and finish?

Trials run 26 - 31 October 2026, and the Player Draft follows.

Training begins 9 November 2026 and the first matchday is 15 November 2026.

The season breaks for the school holidays from 20 December 2026. Training and matches resume 1 February 2027, and the season finishes with Finals Day on 28 March 2027.

When and where is the training and are the matchdays?

Training is held twice a week at our Bateman and Wilson venues, on weekday evenings.

Competitive matches are played on Sunday mornings at Wilson, with kick-off times varying by age division.

Your training night and venue are allocated around your child's ASL club and age division. Players receive their exact training schedule and fixture details before the season begins.

What age divisions are there?

The 2026/27 Apex Super League runs U8 · U10 · U12.

Each division has 4 clubs of 12 players. Your child's date of birth determines their division - the registration form works it out for you.

More age groups and divisions, and a girls' competition, are coming in 2027.

Teams and selection

How are the ASL teams decided?

All players attend an ASL trial between 26 - 31 October 2026, where they are assessed by our coaching staff across technical, tactical, physical and behavioural attributes. Selected players then go into the Player Draft.

Teams are formed to create the most appropriate environment for each player's current stage of development. The goal is not simply to select the strongest players, but to place every player in a team where they will be challenged, develop and enjoy the experience.

Each ASL club has its own playing identity and style.

Can girls play in the ASL?

Yes. Girls are welcome to trial for the Apex Super League.

Players are assessed on their age division and football development, regardless of gender.

Cost

How much does the Apex Super League cost?

The full 2026/27 season fee is A$1,699 including GST. It is payable only if your child is selected and you accept their place.

That covers the complete 14-week programme:

  1. training 2x a week and a competitive match every Sunday, for 14 weeks
  2. The Finals Series
  3. The ASL Cup - a one-day holiday tournament in their age division
  4. Full playing kit - training top, matchday top, shorts and socks
  5. Every match filmed, with access through the Parent Portal
  6. A private player profile, with statistics and match history
  7. Two individual written development reviews - one after Term 4 and one after Term 1

There is no additional kit fee after selection.

Payment plans are available: in full, or across two or three payments.

What happens to my A$50 trial fee?

The A$50 covers your child's registration into the ASL Trial and Player Draft assessment process: the trial session, an individual assessment by the coaching staff, and a place in the Player Draft.

It is separate from the season fee, is not credited against it, and does not guarantee selection.

Before you register

Does registering for a trial guarantee my child a place?

No. Registering secures your child's place at the trial, not in the league.

After the trials, selected players receive an offer. You then have 72 hours to accept it, choose a payment plan and pay the applicable deposit to secure the place.

How do I join?
  1. Register your child for an ASL trial using the form above.
  2. Attend the trial between 26 - 31 October 2026.
  3. Selected players receive an ASL offer.
  4. Accept the offer and your child enters the Player Draft.
